Natalie Portman: Vitalist

Say it ain't so!

We haven’t talked much about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies here at ZADL because there really isn’t much to talk about. It’s pure vitalist hate. The zombies are simply placed within the pages of Jane Austin’s novel, and act as foils. No zombie is allowed to speak, and the one token zombie wedding is something of a throwaway, and not nearly enough to offset the universal hatred of zombies that the author clearly has. It’s a killfest with well spoken dialog and late 18th century romance.

Well now it seems that this book will be made into a film, and that Natalie Portman will be starring in, and producing it.

We urge that Ms Portman reconsider, promoting hate towards our post-vital friends is unworthy of an actress of her talents.

See the stereotypes?

In the interest of being fair, we at the Zombie Anti Defamation League waited until we saw Zombieland (warning, flash heavy site) before speaking about it. This summary may contain spoilers after the break.

Very amusing but heavy on the Vitalist Hate. The living characters were well played, engaging, and to their credit made the film quite enjoyable. We found ourselves laughing heartily in spite of ourselves. We feel that we are open-minded enough to appreciate humor intended honestly, even though it might be considered offensive to our point of view from time to time.

The Zombies were portrayed almost universally as unsympathetic, and were abused, killed, humiliated and debased. Typical, alas.

We feel all Zombies and our supporters should see the film. It is a good exercise in being able to recognize vitalism, even when humor obscures the undertone.

Bill Murray appears as himself in an extended cameo without makeup in this film. It was a remarkably brave thing of him do do as an actor, and we now know that Mr. Murray is in fact a Zombie. We do not know for how long Mr. Murray has been a Zombie, but we must say that he’s kept himself up very well. However, the screenwriters, in keeping with their vitalist prejudices have elected to have Mr. Murray claim that he is wearing makeup in the film. It is a half-step at best.

To see such a distinguished and well loved actor come out as a Zombie, only to have the mindless corporate hacks insist that he claim to be something else is saddening. We did not expect this much however, and are at least heartened by the trend to get genuine Zombies on screen. Mr. Murray is a credit to his craft, and to all Zombies everywhere, and we applaud him.

Zombie Walk in Ashland, Kentucky

The South Will Rise Again but this time it will be corpses shuffling proudly.

To promote the Friday, Oct. 2 release of the upcoming Sony pictures film ZombieLand, Cinemark Movies 10 and Ashland Town Center will be holding the first-ever area ZOMBIE-WALK!!!

Participants will need to appear in costume at 6:30 pm in the Ashland Town Center food court on Friday, Oct. 2. Zombies will then march down the mall concourse, outside, under the viaduct and to the Cinemark Movies 10 entrance just in time for contests and the 7:35 pm showing of Zombie-Land.

Ashland Town Center is located at 500 Winchester Avenue, Ashland, Kentucky, 41101.

Boston Zombie March October 2009

Even though there was a march in Boston earlier this year, it seems that you just can’t keep a good Zombie down! It may be a bit early to post news of this one, but on Saturday, October 17th 2009 there will be a second walk for this year. The event will begin at 3:00 PM at Copley Plaza, Bolyston St. More details can be found here. As usual, we encourage all who can to attend, and to stand up to the shotgun of oppression, crawl over the chainsaw of vitalism, and to walk or lurch proudly for your post-vital rights!

Zombies Want Health Care

This Zombie Wants Health Care

Zombie Activism takes all forms, and at Stop The Zombie Apocalypse it is taking form in the shape of a demand for universal health care.

The Mad as Hell Doctors tour was joined on its Chicago visit by a group of the undead, who shared the Doctors enthusiasm for Universal Single Payer Health Care. The zombies were a hit with the crowd, posing for photos with other supporters of universal health care. This was the zombies largest action yet, with a lucky seven living dead demanding healthcare and brains.

Stay tuned for future actions or start your own! Descend upon your congressional representatives office, flier at Zombie movies or make a zombie movie and demand a government run health care plan for all to stop the spread of infectious diseases such as h1n1, the NAFTA superflu and the Zombie virus.

It should be noted that we are in no way affiliated with Stop The Zombie Apocalypse, but are supportive of activism in general. Any Zombies sympathetic to their cause may find information at their site, and their Facebook Group. Besides, who wouldn’t want free brains for taxpaying Zombies? That’s an idea we can get behind!

Busy Weekend for Zombies

Iowa City’s Zombie Walk fared very well according to reports, with over $1,000 collected for charity. Pictures from the event can be seen here.

Nashville Tennessee also had a good weekend for Zombies.
